Basic Arbitration

Program: The training is designed to provide an in-depth knowledge of the techniques needed to effectively prepare a case for arbitration.
Prerequisite: To attend the course, APWU members must provide a letter from their local or state president (on local or state letterhead) that authorizes their attendance.
Instructors: Training is provided by APWU National officers and staff.
Curriculum: The curriculum includes:
Hotel Reservations: To make hotel reservations, please contact

rate, of $169 per night (single/double occupancy), plus 14.5% taxes, identify
yourself as attending the American Postal Workers Union’s Arbitration
Advocacy Training and register by the Friday, Jan. 20 deadline. Check-in
time is 4 p.m. and check-out time is 12 p.m.
Arrival/Departure: Participants should plan to arrive at the hotel on Sunday, Feb. 19 and depart on Sunday, Feb. 26.
Airport: Participants should fly into Ronald Reagan National (DCA) Airport.
Registration Deadline/Fee: The deadline to register to attend the conference is Friday, January 20, 2012. The registration fee is $350 per person and includes materials, coffee breaks, and a graduation meal. All participants must pre-register prior to the deadline by mailing a registration form [PDF] along with a check or money order for $350 payable to “Basic Arbitration Training” to:

Space is limited; participants are encouraged to register early. No walk-ins will be permitted.
Conference Registration: Participants must p ick up their conference materials and badges from the Registration Desk on Monday, Feb. 20 from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Classes will start promptly at 9 a.m. on Monday.
Valet Parking: Valet -Parking is currently $45 per day, plus tax, for hotel guests with in and out privileges and subject to change; self-parking is not available. However, cheaper parking lots are located near the hotel.
Special Note: In addition to daily classes, participants will be required to work with their assigned teams during evening hours to prepare a mock arbitration case for presentation on Saturday, Feb. 25 and will have both group and individual homework assignments. Therefore, all participants should reside at the hotel. A Graduation Ceremony will be held on Saturday. No classes will be held on Sunday.
